The yellow wallpaper is a short story that talks about the deterioration of a woman ' s mental health while she is on a "rest cure" with her family. I chose this story because it's a widely read work that asks difficult questions about the role of women regarding their mental health, right to autonomy ,women' s role in marriage and how they are expected to be obedient and take on strictly domestic roles , for example in this story the husband belittles her concerns, he assumes he has the right to determine what is best for his wife, his authority is never questioned ;whereas she has no say in anything about her life ,like her health. In addition, she forces herself to act as if she is happy because she wants to be a good wife ,and so she is silenced into submission. Eventually she loses her mind and falls into psychosis ,convinced that the woman in her bedroom wallpaper has come out.
