I am an aspiring illustrator currently studying at the University of Portsmouth.
I like to use art as a tool to put down my thoughts and feelings, expressing desires and making the most unrealistic scenario happen. I tend to prefer dark themes like horror, thriller, psychological and also trauma related content. I love these themes because it makes me think about morals, question what is good and evil, or “what would I do in this situation?”. It mentally stimulates me and makes me engage with the storyline and most importantly with the characters, which is why my biggest inspirations are horror movies (particularly k-dramas) because they have a graphic and special way of portray difficult emotions, heavy storylines with powerful and educational messages and lessons.
My goal as an artist is to send and convey good essentials messages. I want the viewers to see themselves in my art and characters, especially in difficult situations, making it natural to relate to, connect and engage with, and hopefully get inspired. I prefer simple sketching and pencil drawing because it allows me to brainstorm ideas and get straight to the essential features, while also saving time. Using cotton buds helps me achieve shadow and light work, very easy to use and I love the shading effect, while to finish off I tend to use a darker pencil to add contrast, texture and precise thin line strokes. Another medium I adore using is watercollours because it is direct and cannot be controlled or manipulated, I find it magical how it’ s freedom absorbs colours with tiny little soft brush strokes and travel in the paper with no hesitation.
